Hoopsnake is the third full length album by the London based One Unique Signal.
One Unique Signal are ostensibly built around the foundation of Dan Davis – Drums / Instruments, Byron Jackson – Instruments / Vox and Nick Keech – Instruments / Vox. The recording of Hoopsnake saw them tap into a rich collaborative reservoir of over twenty other artists.
All four experimental tracks on the album were inspired by a single riff whose gestation was a, “loop originating from the sessions for their previous LP, the Sonic Boom mastered Aether. The band then recorded two versions of it (one a loud, guitar driven take, the second a softer synth passage) and shared it with friends and collaborators, inviting each artist to create a corresponding sonic interpretation, which have all been mixed into four separate 10 minute long tracks.”
The printed inner sleeve, detailing the personages and their respective gear, takes on the guise of a recipe for a spell, an invocation, summoning the muse to action!
‘HS 01‘, power chords out of the gate, a pounding, repetitious revelry, enmeshing and ensnaring the initiates, a druidic intonation, of divine ritualistic reincarnation; ‘HS 02‘, is an altogether more malign, sturm und drang cacophony, an exercise in discordant probity, industrial machinations, imbued with an essence of the danse macabre…
‘HS 03‘, evokes a pastoral bliss, a rural idyll, high on the birdsong wing, interspersed with a throbbing punchcard dialect, a fractal, soaring oscillatory musing, on interconnectedness; ‘HS 04‘, exudes an ephemeral grandeur, this reverberative affirmation, replenishes and rejuvenates the soul, borne upon an enraptured, uplifting, primordial lapping tide…
Hoopsnake is awash with evolving distant echoes, channelled mysticism and ouroboric incantations, the perfect album to loose then find yourself in.
