LP Review: \GT// – ‘Beats Misplaced’

GT

‘Beats Misplaced’ is the debut album by \GT//, “A Birmingham, Alabama power trio given to insistent but agile rhythms and psychedelic interpretations of standard rock muscle”…

As their Facebook page attests, “Think Japandroids or No Age being born in and embracing the humid and strange American South, and you start to hear GT through the haze” and further that, “Front man and lead guitarist Scotty Lee had tinkered with various incarnations of “GT,” the unifying acronym of his one-man arts-and-music project alternately known as Green Teeth, Get Tryin’ and Ghost Traveler. He’s been playing in bands since high school, from early cover acts and sets of instrumental brooders to post-hardcore crews and straight-ahead rock acts. But GT was a chance for him to separate himself from the frustrations of band life and start an outlet that would be forever his. With Byron Sonnier on bass and Mark Beasley on drums, both respected veterans of the music community themselves, GT is complete as they look forward to putting out their debut LP”.

LP Review / Interview: Polska Radio One – ‘Early Broadcasts’

Polska

‘Early Broadcasts’ is the latest vinyl release from Polska Radio One. Their 2014 vinyl release of ‘Cosmos Inside’, was easily one of my standout records of last year – which in a year of standout releases, gives you some idea of their collective and unique aural quality.

Polska Radio One, from Yekaterinburg, in the Ural’s of Russia, describe themselves as, “Somewhere between sixties-style british rock, modern fuzz-guitar psychedelia and traditional german kraut, you can find a frequency of this radio station”.

EP Review: TAU – ‘Wirikuta’

tau1

TAU is the collective brainchild of Dubliner, Shaun Mulrooney. Shaun is perhaps best known for his involvement with the Dead Skeletons and as the “Invisible Man” with Camera.

TAU’s ‘Medicine Music’ was envisioned during a Mulrooney sojourn in Mexico with the Wixárikas, an ancient shamanic tribe whose culture and mythology is immersed in peyote lore.

This music was given substance courtesy of Mulrooney’s alliance with multi-instrumentalist, Cristoph “Tiger” Bartlett of Kadaver, whilst holed up in their Berlin studio.

The 4 track EP title ‘Wirikuta’, derives from the Wixárikas’ sacred site, high in the mountains of central Mexico where their mythology believes the world was born, where the sun or Tau made it’s first appearance.
