Then Comes Silence – ‘Spinning Faster’

10257811_695120743860121_2205112649258200281_n

‘Spinning Faster’ is the debut single from the up-coming Then Comes Silence III ‘Nyctophilian’ LP, due to be released on Friday 13th March 2015 on the Swedish Novoton Indie Label.

Then Comes Silence are a Psyche/Goth 4 piece from Stockholm originally formed in 2012.

I had noticed a few months back that The Janitors were playing a double-bill with Then Comes Silence, this was all the encouragement I needed to exhume and possess their exquisite b(l)ack catalogue.

‘Spinning Faster’ is a pounding, tribal drums and nerve jangling, kaleidoscopic, swirling guitar Nótt fest.

Featured Artist – Centralstödet

CentralstodetI have those good people at Sky Lantern Records to thank for introducing me to the aural phenomena that is Centralstödet.

As an already confirmed devotee of Kikagaku Moyo, Sky Lantern’s release of Mammatus Clouds earlier this year brought me the added bonus that has been the music of Tolchock and Centralstödet.

Centralstödet are the Swedish instrumental quartet of Ulrik Lindblom and Daniel Johansson on guitar, Joni Huttunen on bass and Jonas Fridlund on drums. The band describe themselves as “Swedish Psych” and “Amplified Madness”, and are described by Sky Lantern as “Garage Proggers”.

Centralstödet’s debut 7 track album, ‘Solkurva, Krök, En Böj’ was released by Sky Lantern in April as a limited edition of 100 hand numbered cassettes, and very quickly sold out.

The Black Angels / Sonic Jesus – Fuzz Club Split Single No 5

Fuzz Club 5

The Black Angels and Sonic Jesus Split Single, I’m just going to savour saying that again, The Black Angels and Sonic Jesus Split Single…

A proverbial beatific match made in Fuzz Club heaven.

I confess to having been a bit of late-comer to The Black Angels, but when they appeared on my radar in December 2013, I fell for them hook, line and sinker. Their sound simply encapsulated all of the elements I had adored since my first adolescent stirrings with The Doors, The Velvet Underground, Joy Division, The Cure, Echo And The Bunnymen et al.

Jet Plane – ‘Loud to Sleep’

Jet Plane

For me, the delight in writing a review lies essentially in the attempt to convey through words, the emotive palette of colours conjured by the music I have been listening to for the past few days.

In the case of ‘Loud to Sleep’ by Jet Plane, the words languid and melancholy immediately sprang to mind. Somewhat reassuringly, these are words which the band themselves have used to describe their distinctive sound.

“Everything is connected” is a line from the movie of David Mitchell’s book, ‘Cloud Atlas’. Serendipitously, I had for some time been meaning to, and finally got around to watching this move last night. I discovered this morning that Jet Plane derived their name from the very same book…

GreenFuzz – ‘This Is An EP’

GreenFuzz

GreenFuzz label themselves as a “Macedonian garage-punk-psychedelic-pop-noise band, formed in 2010”.

What this trio sound like on their debut 3 track released for PMG Recordings, ‘This Is An Ep’, is exactly what it says on label.

What it doesn’t say on the label is how immediately and infectiously hooked you will be with these tracks. Jana’s guitar and vocals are arresting and distinctive, underscored by a driving bass and drums.
