I am oft heard decrying the dearth of bands making the pilgrimage across the Irish Sea, well last night was one of those rare exceptions to the rule.
To some extent this perceived lack, manifests in a pessimistic malaise – avoiding the certitude of knowing who’s not coming, overshadowing those who are.
An eleventh hour notification from James Lappin put paid to such indisposition.
Psychedelic warrior preist legends, Acid Mothers Temple in their, ‘The Melting Paraiso UFO’ guise rolled into town, supported by the equally fantastically named Wizards Of Firetop Mountain.
A welcome Strange Victory Presents Thursday night extravaganza.
Wizards Of Firetop Mountain emerge from the stage mists, “With floods of fire raging from the rocky peaks, five wizards descended their sanctuary arriving many centuries later at the Foothills of the ancient Gaelic stronghold Dubh Linn to unleash a furious wrath of wizardry and riffs upon the scorched-sunken soil.”
The rhythm guitarist’s T-shirt is emblazoned with the prophetic, “Love Priest, Hate Priests”.
This more than aptly sets the scene, as this 5 piece powerhouse conjure their very own epic grandeur, akin to Rainbow’s finest ‘Stargazer’ operatic bombast.
Makoto Kawabata, Atsushi Tsuyama, Hiroshi Higashi, Tabata Mitsuru, and Satoshima Nani materialise on stage.
These “Psychedelic Rock Krautrock Noise Folk Improv” partisans, formed in 1995 and have established themselves as something of an institution.
Imagine yourself, inside the hadron collider, marching to a different drummer, each instrument a symphonic, meandering kaleidoscopic tool, replete with throat singing incantations…
Even at this, you perhaps have only half an idea of what Acid Mothers Temple, in all their ritualistic deconstructive glory epitomise.
Witness this band live, join the transcendental dots, and revel in never being quite the same again…
Before I’d even left Voodoo I was grinning from ear to gob-smacked ear, the remainder of this European Tour sees Acid Mothers Temple visit;
