White Hills / Radar Men From The Moon – ‘Fuzz Club ‘Split Single No. 8’

wmrmftm

White Hills and RMFTM are the latest additions to the Fuzz Club Split Single series – boasting leviathans from all ends of the underground spectrum, a roll of honour which to date includes, Christian Bland & The Revelators / Singapore Sling, The Underground Youth / The Third Sound, The Entrance Band / Wall Of Death, Alan Vega / The Vacant Lots, The Black Angels / Sonic Jesus, A Place to Bury Strangers / The Telescopes and The Myrrors / Cult Of Dom Keller – pretty illustrious company indeed.

Neither band should need much in the way of introduction, for the self-confessed aficionados of this limited edition vinyl feast.

Interview: Radar Men From The Moon

RM

As a prelude to inclusion in the forthcoming issue of Optical Sounds Fanzine, as well as a precursor to my getting to witness these guys at least twice in the coming months, I caught up with Tony and Glenn from Radar Men From The Moon for a flavour of what makes them tick…

Happening: Reverence Valada 2016

Wow! Is it really that time again, already…?

The first line-up announcement for the 2016 instalment of Reverence Valada, has left me grinning like a Cheshire cat.

I had no idea, when I saw my beloved Killing Joke at the Roundhouse in London just a few weeks ago, that I’d get to see them again in the Portuguese sunshine next September.

That they are amongst such esteemed company, is a credit yet again, to event organisers Nick Allport and Jason Fletcher.

Live Review: Fuzz Club Festival – Day 2

12186576_991746140890425_5624312151967611066_o

Day 1 of Fuzz Club Festival had set the bar impossibly high. There had been 6 outstanding performances on Friday, the promise of 8 more on Saturday was a dizzying prospect.

The dizziness is quickly reigned in, with the inevitable news that Wall Of Death, understandably, would no longer be joining us. The sickening reality of the slaughter in Paris inescapable. “Terror” will not prevail, the show must and will go on…

Album Review: Het Droste Effect – ‘Soar’

hde2

Het Droste Effect is, “Two guys rocking out in a studio and blending whatever sounds they like at any given moment in time.”

I first chanced upon Het Droste Effect, with the announcement of their ‘Random X Maybe’ track, commissioned for Eindhoven Psych Lab in 2014. A delightfully idiosyncratic collaboration, with Glen Peeters from Radar Men From The Moon.

I immediately added a copy of the creatively packaged, vinyl compilation of their earlier ‘Het Droste Effect’ / ‘Lingerland’ MP3 releases to my collection, such was my infatuation with their gritty, transportive sound. A sound which was further cemented with last year’s ethereally sublime, ‘We Are All Hallucinating’.

‘Soar’ is the latest release from this Eindhoven dynamic duo. Here their self-referential, fractal geometry paints a slightly sparser picture, yet remains gliding on thermal currents and solar winds…
