Live Review: Fuzz Club Festival – Day 2

12186576_991746140890425_5624312151967611066_o

Day 1 of Fuzz Club Festival had set the bar impossibly high. There had been 6 outstanding performances on Friday, the promise of 8 more on Saturday was a dizzying prospect.

The dizziness is quickly reigned in, with the inevitable news that Wall Of Death, understandably, would no longer be joining us. The sickening reality of the slaughter in Paris inescapable. “Terror” will not prevail, the show must and will go on…

Happening: Fuzz Club Festival – London Fields Brewhouse, 13th-14th November

1417494_610241192374257_1937297129_o

Only 10 more sleeps to go, only 10 more sleeps to go, only 10 more sleeps to go…

My 3rd and final teaser for the historic, mould-breaking Fuzz Club Festival at London Fields Brewhouse on the 13th & 14th of November, featuring THE KVB, CAMERA, THE TELESCOPES, 10,000 RUSSOS, NEW CANDYS, THROW DOWN BONES, THE MYRRORS , LOLA COLT , SONIC JESUS, MUGSTAR, THE CULT OF DOM KELLER, RADAR MEN FROM THE MOON, THE JANITORS, THE ORANGE REVIVAL, DEAD RABBITS, I hereby present the remaining five bands on this most illustrious of billings.

Of this concluding brood of acts, I have been humbled by the sensory overloading delectation, of all in the flesh bar The Orange Revival, whose recent ‘Futurecent‘ LP had me flapping at the prospect of beholding their live performance. ( In fairness to both The Cult Of Dom Keller and Dead Rabbits, my exposure to their delights were all too fleetingly brief at Eindhoven Psych Lab, and will be remedied in London).

Featured Artist – Tolchock

Tolchock 851x315

Somewhere back in September, Sky Lantern Records posted a piece on the Japanese ‘Spacy Drone Neo Psychedelic duo’ Tolchock, and on first listen I was immediately hooked.

The 3 track digital album, ‘After Fog Open’ by Taku Idemoto and Shoko Yoshida became a constant companion.

‘After Fog Open’ kicks off with the 19 minute sprawling epic that is ‘Behind The Ground’, a slow burning fuse of an exercise in sonic experimental drone layering.  An aural kaleidoscopic feast, restlessly folding and unfolding, merging, colliding, rippling and tumbling. This is a masterclass in building and sustaining chilled-out tension, it is a testament to the excellence of the track that after 19 minutes you are still left longing for more.

The Myrrors – ‘Solar Collector’

myrrors 851x315

The Myrrors will always be a special band for me.

Thanks to my good friend Darren in Japan, I first heard “Burning Circles In The Sky” back in November of 2013.The Myrrors were my red pill of admittance, tumbling me down the Psych rabbit-hole.

As a long term devotee of the classics, I was sadly largely ignorant of the raft of new acolytes out there. I had found myself languishing in “classic rock” purgatory, where a notable new song was a godsend, a fulfilling new album almost unheard of, and the predictable “reissue” was de rigueur.
